Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how SafePlay collects, uses, shares, retains, and deletes information when you use trysafeplay.com, the SafePlay browser extension, the SafePlay iOS app, and related services. It also explains the choices available to you.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

Account information, such as your email address, display name, and authentication information
Household profile names, roles, viewing permissions, filtering preferences, approval decisions, and linked-device settings
Payment and subscription information; payment-card details are handled by our payment processors and are not stored by SafePlay
Messages, support requests, survey responses, and other information you choose to send us

Information generated when you use SafePlay

Usage information, including video identifiers, search terms submitted through SafePlay (including partial terms used for autocomplete suggestions), filtering preferences, requested or approved videos, feature interactions, and SafePlay viewing history when history is enabled
Device and application information, such as browser or app version, operating system, language, linked-device identifiers, and diagnostic information
Security and service logs, such as IP address, access time, authentication events, errors, and abuse-prevention signals
Optional SafePlay feed choices, such as saved picks and explicit “Not for me” selections. SafePlay does not use playback activity or YouTube metadata to create hidden interest scores.

After you connect the browser extension, it sends the current YouTube video ID to SafePlay to check filter readiness and viewing access. SafePlay may use public details such as title, channel, and duration. When automatic filtering is on, an existing filter may start without another click. Preparing a new filter requires your request; Managed Profiles follow household viewing rules. SafePlay saves optional account viewing history only when that setting is enabled. SafePlay does not sell browsing history or use it for advertising.

Separately from optional account history, the Chrome extension keeps up to 15 cached transcripts/filters and pending-request recovery data, including video IDs, so filtering and interrupted requests can work reliably. This local operational data can remain when account history is off. It is cleared when you change accounts or sign out. The extension's Clear cache control removes cached transcripts/filters; some preferences and household protection settings remain.

3. How We Use Information

Operate SafePlay, authenticate accounts and linked devices, prepare requested filters, and provide filtered playback
Apply household permissions, send approval and completion notices, and maintain the SafePlay Filter Library
Process subscriptions and purchases, provide support, and communicate service or security updates
Protect SafePlay and its users, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce limits, diagnose failures, and improve reliability
Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service

SafePlay does not use personal information for targeted advertising, sell personal information, or use data obtained through the browser extension for an unrelated purpose.

4. YouTube

SafePlay uses YouTube API Services and YouTube embedded players. When you use YouTube features through SafePlay, your use is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Information sent to YouTube, such as a search term or requested video identifier, is handled by Google under its policies.

SafePlay's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

SafePlay's use of information received through the browser extension will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

SafePlay stores YouTube API data only as needed to provide the service and refreshes or deletes that data within the period required by YouTube. A short-lived search-result cache expires within 15 minutes. You can revoke SafePlay's access to Google account data, if any is authorized in the future, through Google's security settings.

We share information only as needed with:

Service providers that perform services for us, such as hosting, search, data processing, authentication, payments, email, notifications, security, analytics limited to operating SafePlay, and customer support. Search providers receive your search terms and search region to return results, not your SafePlay account credentials or household profile details.
YouTube and Google when you use YouTube search, metadata, or playback features
Authorities or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, or complete a business transaction subject to appropriate safeguards

Service providers may use information only to perform services for SafePlay and must protect it appropriately.

6. Household and Managed Profiles

SafePlay household accounts are created and controlled by an adult owner. The owner and authorized guardians can configure Managed Profiles, approve video requests, and view activity made visible by the household settings. Managed Profiles do not require a separate email address or social login. Adult profile activity remains private except where the adult chooses to share it or disclosure is required for security or law.

SafePlay is a general-audience service for adult account owners and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information outside an adult-managed household, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate.

7. Retention and Deletion

Account, subscription, household, and Filter Library information is retained while needed to provide SafePlay and for legitimate legal, security, and accounting purposes.
YouTube API data is refreshed or deleted within 30 days unless YouTube permits a longer period or the data is refreshed.
Optional SafePlay feed choices can be deleted in Settings. Turning that feature off deletes its stored feedback.
Security logs and backups are retained for limited periods and then deleted or de-identified according to our operational schedule.

You can delete your account from SafePlay's account settings or request deletion through our contact page. We begin processing verified deletion requests promptly and delete covered YouTube user data within seven days, subject to limited information we must retain for legal, fraud-prevention, billing, or security reasons.

8. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network connections, access controls, limited service credentials, and monitoring. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Chrome extension version 1.1.31 and later encrypts locally stored sign-in details and filtering/recovery data. The extension keeps the encryption key in its browser storage so you can remain signed in after restarting Chrome. Older installed versions may store these values without local encryption until updated. This protection does not make information inaccessible to the running extension or guarantee protection if your browser or device is compromised.

9. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict certain uses of personal information. You may also withdraw optional feed consent, manage history and notification settings, unlink devices, cancel marketing messages, or delete your account. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

10. International Processing

SafePlay and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

11. Changes

We may update this policy as SafePlay changes. We will post the updated policy here, change the effective date, and provide additional notice when required.
